The Mission of the Engadine Consolidated School District is to engage all students in a lifelong learning process to acquire knowledge develop skills and establish work habits to enable them to become productive members of society.
By including technology as an integral part of a well-balanced K-12 program, our school system will provide students with the opportunity to develop lifelong learning skills through the use of technology. With technology as a tool, teachers, administrators, and support staff will become more efficient and effective in facilitating and managing the learning environment.
Engadine Consolidated Schools is located in the western part of Mackinac County, in the eastern Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The district consists of 286 students in grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade housed in two joined buildings. The elementary segment has 133 students and nine teachers. The Junior/Senior high enrollment in grades six through twelve is 153 students with a staff of eleven teachers. Approximately 31.47 percent of the student population is Native American, 1 percent Asian, 1.4 percent African American, 1.75 percent Hispanic, 1 percent are multi-racial, and 63.38 percent are Caucasian. The socioeconomic status of the district's population is lower middle class. The economically disadvantaged are 55.5 percent of the population. Many of the district's residents drive 50-60 miles one way to find employment. The district's main employers are the State of Michigan, casinos, health care, and the school district. Mackinac County, in which the district is located, has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state of Michigan. All of these factors make technology a great leveling tool by creating opportunities and making resources available to students and staff that would otherwise be unavailable.
